Description
Editable transport compliance toolkit
Turn the requirement into a working, evidenced system
Driver induction pack with a full induction programme, driver induction checklist, driving assessment record and probation sign-off. Editable Word format.
What it is
The first day sets the standard. Drivers who walk the yard, sign the paperwork and complete a proper assessment drive differently from drivers handed keys and a postcode. This driver induction pack gives you the whole programme in editable form: a structured induction, a driver induction checklist to evidence it, a driving assessment record and a probation sign-off, so nobody reaches the end of probation without a file that justifies keeping them or letting them go.
What is inside
- Structured induction programme covering licence and CPC verification, vehicle familiarisation, walkaround check training, drivers hours basics and site rules
- Driver induction checklist signed off stage by stage by driver and manager
- Driving assessment record for the initial assessed drive, with pass, retrain and fail outcomes
- Probation review forms and final sign-off
- Cross-references to your policies so each one is issued and acknowledged during induction
Everything in the driver induction pack exists because we have watched its absence cost operators at hearings: the question is never whether you inducted a driver, it is whether you can prove it.
Who it is for
Growing fleets recruiting at pace, operators who lean on agency cover, and transport managers who inherited a word-of-mouth induction from a previous regime. New operators use the driver induction pack to start with a defensible process from driver one rather than retrofitting paperwork later. It also gives assessors and mentors a consistent script, so two new starters do not receive two different standards.
Format and updates
Editable Word format with a version control sheet at the front, so you can add your branding, your site rules and your vehicle types before the next new starter arrives. When we improve the master, the version sheet lets you show which edition of the driver induction pack any individual driver went through, which is exactly the audit trail DVSA and insurers ask for. Nothing is locked, so site-specific pages can be added without breaking the structure.
How to put the pack into use
- Replace every marked placeholder.
- Compare the controls with your vehicles, work, licence commitments and current official guidance.
- Remove irrelevant options and add local responsibilities and escalation routes.
- Approve a controlled version and brief affected people.
- Use the registers, sample completed records and correct failures.
Questions about this pack
Does it include a driving assessment?
It includes the assessment record and scoring structure for an assessed drive. You choose who conducts it: a competent in-house assessor or an external trainer.
Can we use it for agency and part-time drivers?
Yes. Run the full programme for permanent starters and the core stages for short-term cover. The checklist marks which stages are mandatory for every driver regardless of contract type.
